I have always been very proud of the foods from Pakistan which is where I grew up and I think Pakistani treats and deserts are often over looked by people as they can tend to be quite sweet and may be a bit overbearing for some. That is the beauty of Pakistani food, nothing is done by halves and the flavours, like the people are loud and proud in every way. Pakistani people are well known for loving their sweets and tend to use a lot of sugar in their deserts.
However, I love taking traditional Pakistani deserts like Gulab Jamuns (round, soft sponges dipped in syrup) and giving them a GillyTreats twist by changing flavours and making them tasty enough for people who don’t like bags of sugar in their deserts. I feel that these deserts need to make their mark and recently made a cake with a melted Burfi (a fudge like desert served in cubes) topping which went down VERY well! So, next time you fancy something sweet try something from Pakistan!
